NCBI Description

This gene encodes a gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor. GABA is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the mammlian brain, where it acts at GABA-A receptors, which are ligand-gated chloride channels. GABA-A receptors are pentameric, consisting of proteins from several subunit classes: alpha, beta, gamma, delta and rho. Mutations in this gene have been associated with epilepsy and febrile seizures. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

Component of the heteropentameric receptor for GABA, the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the vertebrate brain. Functions also as histamine receptor and mediates cellular responses to histamine. Functions as receptor for diazepines and various anesthetics, such as pentobarbital; these are bound at a separate allosteric effector binding site. Functions as ligand-gated chloride channel.

Product Notes

The GABRG2 gabrg2 (Catalog #AAA423792) is an Antibody and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Goat anti-GABRG2 (aa384-396) Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat, Pig Expected from sequence similarity: Dog, Cow and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's GABRG2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Peptide ELISA (EIA), Western Blot (WB). Pep-ELISA: antibody detection limit dilution 1:16000. WB: Approx 60kDa band observed in Human, Mouse, Rat and Pig Brain lysates. Recommended concentration: 0.1-0.3ug/ml. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the GABRG2 gabrg2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "GABRG2, Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
