Introduction: Rubella (German Measles) Virus Antigen is medically significant because of its teratogenic effect when contracted by childbearing women. Maternal infection, especially during the first trimester of pregnancy, can result in a range of congenital birth defects including deafness, cataracts, diabetes and cardiac and bone abnormalities. The characteristic multi-system defects resulting from a Rubella prenatal infection are termed the Congenital Rubella Syndrome (CRS).
Serologic tests are an important aid in the prevention of prenatal Rubella infections. The incidence of this disease has decreased dramatically in the United States following the nationwide Rubella testing and immunization program.
Rubella Virus Antigen is prepared by the concentration of cell culture fluid from cells infected with Rubella Virus strain HPV77. The Rubella virus is purified by gradient centrifugation and yields an antigen high in sensitivity with low backgrounds in the ELISA and other solid phase immunoassays. The Rubella Grade IV product #6076 and #6123 are ~90% pure and are typically required for IgM antibody testing. All of the Rubella products are inactivated and are tested for infectivity prior to release.

Product Notes
The Rubella Virus Antigens (Catalog #AAA318672) is an Antigen produced from Grown in Vero Cells. and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's Rubella Virus Antigens can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA, Western Blot. Optimal dilutions/concentrations should be determined by the end user. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the Rubella Virus Antigens for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Rubella Virus Antigens, Antigen" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
