Related Product Information for anti-CFD antibody
Adipsin is the mouse homolog of the previously described human complement Factor D, a serine protease, which is now designated human Adipsin. Human Adipsin is highly expressed in and secreted by adipose tissue, and it has also been found in monocytes and macrophages. Rodent Adipsin has only been detected in high levels in adipose tissue. It has been shown that complement factor B, when complexed with activated complement component C3, is cleaved by Adipsin. While low expression of Adipsin has been confirmed in obese mice with hypothalamic defects, this inverse correlation between Adipsin expression and obesity has not been demonstrated in humans.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the S1, or chymotrypsin, family of serine peptidases. This protease catalyzes the cleavage of factor B, the rate-limiting step of the alternative pathway of complement activation. This protein also functions as an adipokine, a cell signaling protein secreted by adipocytes, which regulates insulin secretion in mice. Mutations in this gene underlie complement factor D deficiency, which is associated with recurrent bacterial meningitis infections in human patients. Alternative splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants. At least one of these variants encodes a preproprotein that is proteolytically processed to generate the mature protease. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2015]

Uniprot Description

CFD: Factor D cleaves factor B when the latter is complexed with factor C3b, activating the C3bbb complex, which then becomes the C3 convertase of the alternate pathway. Its function is homologous to that of C1s in the classical pathway. Defects in CFD are the cause of complement factor D deficiency (CFDD). CFDD is an immunologic disorder characterized by increased susceptibility to bacterial infections, particularly Neisseria infections, due to a defect in the alternative complement pathway. Belongs to the peptidase S1 family.

Product Notes

The CFD cfd (Catalog #AAA3006883) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The CFD Polyclonal Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's CFD can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). WB: 1:500-1:1000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CFD cfd for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CFD, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
