Related Product Information for anti-CYP8B1 antibody
CYP8B1 (sterol 12-alpha-hydroxylase) is a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of monooxygenase enzymes that are involved in the metabolism of a wide array of endogenous and xenobiotic compounds. CYP8B1 is highly expressed in liver and is an important enzyme for bile acid synthesis. Specifically, CYP8B1 moderates the ratio of cholic acid over chenodeoxycholic acid to control the solubility of cholesterol. The gene encoding human CYP8B1 maps to chromosome 3p22.1. The CYP8B1 gene encodes a 501 amino acid protein and does not contain any introns. The CYP8B1 gene promoter is transactivated by hepatocyte nuclear factor 4alpha. In mice, disruption of the CYP8B1 gene prevents the synthesis of cholate, which is a primary bile acid.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. The cytochrome P450 proteins are monooxygenases which catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. This endoplasmic reticulum membrane protein catalyzes the conversion of 7 alpha-hydroxy-4-cholesten-3-one into 7-alpha,12-alpha-dihydroxy-4-cholesten-3-one. The balance between these two steroids determines the relative amounts of cholic acid and chenodeoxycholic acid both of which are secreted in the bile and affect the solubility of cholesterol. This gene is unique among the cytochrome P450 genes in that it is intronless. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

CYP8B1: Involved in bile acid synthesis and is responsible for the conversion of 7 alpha-hydroxy-4-cholesten-3-one into 7 alpha, 12 alpha-dihydroxy-4-cholesten-3-one. Responsible for the balance between formation of cholic acid and chenodeoxycholic acid. Has a rather broad substrate specificity including a number of 7-alpha- hydroxylated C27 steroids. Belongs to the cytochrome P450 family.

Product Notes

The CYP8B1 cyp8b1 (Catalog #AAA3006570) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The CYP8B1 Polyclonal Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's CYP8B1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). WB: 1:500-1:1000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CYP8B1 cyp8b1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CYP8B1, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
