NCBI Description

This gene encodes subunit a, one of two subunits of alpha-crystallin, which is a high molecular weight, soluble aggregate and is a member of the small heat shock protein (sHSP) family. The encoded protein has been identified as a moonlighting protein based on its ability to perform mechanistically distinct functions. It acts as a molecular chaperone and is the major protein in the eye lens, maintaining the transparency and refractive index of the lens. In mouse, deficiency in this gene is associated with smaller lenses and eyes and with increasing lens opacity with age. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2014]

Uniprot Description

Product Notes

The Mouse Cryaa cryaa (Catalog #AAA2886769) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA2886769 ELISA Kit recognizes Mouse Cryaa. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Alpha-crystallin A chain, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
