NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
monooxygenase that catalyzes synthesis of cholesterol and steroids [RGD, Feb 2006]
Uniprot Description
CYP11A1: Catalyzes the side-chain cleavage reaction of cholesterol to pregnenolone. Defects in CYP11A1 are the cause of adrenal insufficiency congenital with 46,XY sex reversal (AICSR). A rare disorder that can present as acute adrenal insufficiency in infancy or childhood. ACTH and plasma renin activity are elevated and adrenal steroids are inappropriately low or absent; the 46,XY patients have female external genitalia, sometimes with clitoromegaly. The phenotypic spectrum ranges from prematurity, complete underandrogenization, and severe early-onset adrenal failure to term birth with clitoromegaly and later-onset adrenal failure. Patients with congenital adrenal insufficiency do not manifest the massive adrenal enlargement typical of congenital lipoid adrenal hyperplasia. Belongs to the cytochrome P450 family.

Product Notes
The Rat Cyp11a1 cyp11a1 (Catalog #AAA2881132) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA2881132 ELISA Kit recognizes Rat Cyp11a1. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Cholesterol side-chain cleavage enzyme, mitochondrial, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
