Principle of the Assay: This assay employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate GLIPR1 in samples. An antibody specific for GLIPR1 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyGLIPR1 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for GLIPR1 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of GLIPR1 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

GLIPR1: a protein with similarity to both the pathogenesis-related protein (PR) superfamily and the cysteine-rich secretory protein (CRISP) family. Increased expression of this gene is associated with myelomocytic differentiation in macrophage and decreased expression of this gene through gene methylation is associated with prostate cancer. The protein has proapoptotic activities in prostate and bladder cancer cells. This gene is a member of a cluster on chromosome 12 containing two other similar genes. Alternatively spliced variants which encode different protein isoforms have been described; however, not all variants have been fully characterized. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
