Principle of the Assay: This assay employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate JMJD1C in samples. An antibody specific for JMJD1C has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyJMJD1C present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for JMJD1C is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of JMJD1C bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

The protein encoded by this gene interacts with thyroid hormone receptors and contains a jumonji domain. It is a candidate histone demethylase and is thought to be a coactivator for key transcription factors. It plays a role in the DNA-damage response pathway by demethylating the mediator of DNA damage checkpoint 1 (MDC1) protein, and is required for the survival of acute myeloid leukemia. Mutations in this gene are associated with Rett syndrome and intellectual disability. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2015]
