Related Product Information for FDPS recombinant protein
Background: Z-farnesyl diphosphate synthase (FDPS) is an enzyme belonging to the family of transferases, specifically those transferring aryl or alkyl groups other than methyl groups. Z-farnesyl diphosphate synthase (FDPS) functions as key enzyme in isoprenoid biosynthesis which catalyzes the formation of farnesyl diphosphate, a precurcor for several classes of essential metabolites. FDPS catalyzes the production of geranyl pyrophosphate and farnesyl pyrophosphate from isopentenyl pyrophosphate and dimethylallyl pyrophosphate. The resulting product, farnesyl pyrophosphate, is a key intermediate in cholesterol and sterol biosynthesis, a substrate for protein farnesylation and geranylgeranylation, and a ligand or agonist for certain hormone receptors and growth receptors. Drugs that inhibit this enzyme prevent the post-translational modifications of small GTPases and have been used to treat diseases related to bone resorption. Functions of FDPS may be inactivated by interferon-induced RSAD2. This inactivation may result of disruption of lipid rafts at the plasma membrane, and thus have an antiviral effect since many enveloped viruses need lipid rafts to bud efficiently out of the cell.

Description: A DNA sequence encoding the human FDPS isoform b (NP_001129294.1) (Met 1-Lys 353) was expressed, with a polyhistide tag at the N-terminus.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes an enzyme that catalyzes the production of geranyl pyrophosphate and farnesyl pyrophosphate from isopentenyl pyrophosphate and dimethylallyl pyrophosphate. Multiple pseudogenes have been found on chromosomes 1, 7, 14, 15, 21 and X. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Oct 2008]

Uniprot Description

FDPS: Key enzyme in isoprenoid biosynthesis which catalyzes the formation of farnesyl diphosphate (FPP), a precursor for several classes of essential metabolites including sterols, dolichols, carotenoids, and ubiquinones. FPP also serves as substrate for protein farnesylation and geranylgeranylation. Catalyzes the sequential condensation of isopentenyl pyrophosphate with the allylic pyrophosphates, dimethylallyl pyrophosphate, and then with the resultant geranylpyrophosphate to the ultimate product farnesyl pyrophosphate. Belongs to the FPP/GGPP synthase family.

Product Notes

The FDPS fdps (Catalog #AAA2545359) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The recombinant human FDPS consisting of 368 amino acids and has a calculated molecular mass of 42.4 kDa. It migrates as an approximately 38 kDa band in SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the FDPS fdps for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "FDPS, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
