NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
The protein encoded by this gene is a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subunit and a member of a superfamily of ligand-gated ion channels that mediate fast signal transmission at synapses. These receptors are thought to be heteropentamers composed of separate but similar subunits. Defects in this gene have been linked to susceptibility to lung cancer type 2 (LNCR2).[provided by RefSeq, Jun 2010]
Uniprot Description
nAChRA5: After binding acetylcholine, the AChR responds by an extensive change in conformation that affects all subunits and leads to opening of an ion-conducting channel across the plasma membrane. Belongs to the ligand-gated ion channel (TC 1.A.9) family. Acetylcholine receptor (TC 1.A.9.1) subfamily. Alpha- 5/CHRNA5 sub-subfamily.
Protein type: Membrane protein, integral; Channel, ligand-gated; Membrane protein, multi-pass
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 15q24
Cellular Component: nicotinic acetylcholine-gated receptor-channel complex; postsynaptic membrane; plasma membrane; cell junction
Molecular Function: acetylcholine receptor activity; nicotinic acetylcholine-activated cation-selective channel activity; ligand-gated ion channel activity
Biological Process: synaptic transmission; transport; behavioral response to nicotine; signal transduction; cation transport

Product Notes
The CHRNA5 chrna5 (Catalog #AAA243307) is an Antibody produced from Goat and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Goat Polyclonal to Human CHRNA5 reacts with Gibbon, Chimpanzee, Gorilla, Human, Monkey Predicted Reactivity: Hamster, Horse, Pig (at least 90% immunogen sequence identity) and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's CHRNA5 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry (IHC - Paraffin), Western Blot (WB), ELISA (EIA). ELISA (1:32000), IHC-P (3.75 ug/ml), WB (1 - 3 ug/ml) Usage: Peptide ELISA: antibody detection limit dilution 1:32000. Western blot: Approx 55kD band observed in lysates of cell line KELLY (calculated MW of 53.1kD according to NP_000736.2). Recommended concentration: 1-3 ug/ml. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CHRNA5 chrna5 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CHRNA5, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
