NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
This gene encodes a small membrane glycoprotein found on the surface of human platelets. It forms a 1-to-1 noncovalent complex with glycoprotein Ib, a platelet surface membrane glycoprotein complex that functions as a receptor for von Willebrand factor. The complete receptor complex includes noncovalent association of the alpha and beta subunits with the protein encoded by this gene and platelet glycoprotein V. Defects in this gene are a cause of Bernard-Soulier syndrome, also known as giant platelet disease. These patients have unusually large platelets and have a clinical bleeding tendency. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2008]
Uniprot Description
GPIX: The GPIb-V-IX complex functions as the vWF receptor and mediates vWF-dependent platelet adhesion to blood vessels. The adhesion of platelets to injured vascular surfaces in the arterial circulation is a critical initiating event in hemostasis. GP-IX may provide for membrane insertion and orientation of GP-Ib. Defects in GP9 are a cause of Bernard-Soulier syndrome (BSS); also known as giant platelet disease (GPD). BSS patients have unusually large platelets and have a clinical bleeding tendency.
Protein type: Membrane protein, integral
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 3q21.3
Cellular Component: integral to plasma membrane; plasma membrane
Biological Process: platelet activation; cell adhesion; blood coagulation; blood coagulation, intrinsic pathway
Disease: Bernard-soulier Syndrome

Product Notes
The CD42a gp9 (Catalog #AAA212060) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The MOUSE ANTI HUMAN CD42a reacts with Dog, Mink and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's CD42a can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Flow cytometry (FC/FACS), Immunoprecipitation (IP). Flow Cytometry: Use 10ul of the suggested working dilution to label 106 cells or 100ul whole blood Flow Cytometry: Minimum Dilution: 1/10; Maximum Dilution: 1/100. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CD42a gp9 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CD42a, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
