Preparation and Storage
Storage: Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles. Store at 2-8 degree C for one month. Aliquot and store at -80 degree C for 12 months.
Stability Test: The thermal stability is described by the loss rate of the targetprotein. The loss rate was determined by accelerated thermal degradation test, that is, incubate the protein at 37 degree C for 48h, and no obvious degradation andprecipitation were observed. The loss of this protein is less than 5% within the expiration date under appropriate storage condition.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a mitochondrial phosphate-activated glutaminase that catalyzes the hydrolysis of glutamine to stoichiometric amounts of glutamate and ammonia. Originally thought to be liver-specific, this protein has been found in other tissues as well. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants that encode different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2013]

Uniprot Description

GLS2: Plays an important role in the regulation of glutamine catabolism. Promotes mitochondrial respiration and increases ATP generation in cells by catalyzing the synthesis of glutamate and alpha-ketoglutarate. Increases cellular anti-oxidant function via NADH and glutathione production. May play a role in preventing tumor proliferation. Belongs to the glutaminase family.

Protein type: Amino Acid Metabolism - alanine, aspartate and glutamate; Hydrolase; Amino Acid Metabolism - arginine and proline; Other Amino Acids Metabolism - D-Glutamine and D-glutamate; Mitochondrial; Energy Metabolism - nitrogen; EC 3.5.1.2

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 12q13.3

Cellular Component: mitochondrion; mitochondrial matrix

Molecular Function: protein binding; glutaminase activity

Biological Process: regulation of apoptosis; amino acid metabolic process; synaptic transmission; glutamate secretion; neurotransmitter secretion; glutamine metabolic process; amino acid biosynthetic process

It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Glutaminase, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
