NCBI Description

Heme oxygenase, an essential enzyme in heme catabolism, cleaves heme to form biliverdin, which is subsequently converted to bilirubin by biliverdin reductase, and carbon monoxide, a putative neurotransmitter. Heme oxygenase activity is induced by its substrate heme and by various nonheme substances. Heme oxygenase occurs as 2 isozymes, an inducible heme oxygenase-1 and a constitutive heme oxygenase-2. HMOX1 and HMOX2 belong to the heme oxygenase family. [provided by RefSeq]

Uniprot Description

HMOX1: Heme oxygenase cleaves the heme ring at the alpha methene bridge to form biliverdin. Biliverdin is subsequently converted to bilirubin by biliverdin reductase. Under physiological conditions, the activity of heme oxygenase is highest in the spleen, where senescent erythrocytes are sequestrated and destroyed. Heme oxygenase 1 activity is highly inducible by its substrate heme and by various non-heme substances such as heavy metals, bromobenzene, endotoxin, oxidizing agents and UVA. Expressed at higher levels in renal cancer tissue than in normal tissue. Belongs to the heme oxygenase family.

Product Notes

The HMOX1 hmox1 (Catalog #AAA190201) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's Heme Oxygenase-1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA, Western Blot, Immunohistochemistry. ELISA: 1:10,000 dilution with solid phase antigen. Western Blot: 5-10 ug/ml. Immunohistochemistry: 5-10 ug/ml (for use on human frozen or paraffin embedded tissue). Heme oxygenase 1 activity assays. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the HMOX1 hmox1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Heme Oxygenase-1, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
