Principle of the Assay: This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with human MASP3 antibody. MASP3 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated human MASP3 Antibody is added and binds to MASP3 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated MASP3 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of human MASP3. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

The recognition of complex carbohydrate structures on glycoproteins is an important part of several biological processes, including cell-cell recognition, serum glycoprotein turnover, and neutralization of pathogens. The protein encoded by this gene is a type I membrane receptor that mediates the endocytosis of glycoproteins by macrophages. The protein has been shown to bind high-mannose structures on the surface of potentially pathogenic viruses, bacteria, and fungi so that they can be neutralized by phagocytic engulfment.[provided by RefSeq, Sep 2015]
