Protease HtpX (htpX) Recombinant Protein | htpX recombinant protein
Recombinant Escherichia coli Protease HtpX (htpX), partial
NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
Overexpression of truncated HtpX promotes degradation of incomplete proteins in puromycin-treated cells. [More information is available at EcoGene: EG10462]. HtpX is a heat shock protein that may be involved in degrading misfolded proteins . [More information is available at EcoCyc: EG10462].
Uniprot Description
Membrane-localized protease able to endoproteolytically degrade overproduced SecY but not YccA, another membrane protein. It seems to cleave SecY at specific cytoplasmic sites. Does not require ATP. Its natural substrate has not been identified. Probably plays a role in the quality control of integral membrane proteins.
