Scientific Background: UBE2G1 (UBC7) or ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2G 1 is a member of the E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family and catalyzes the covalent attachment of ubiquitin to other proteins which are involved in degradation of muscle-specific proteins. UBC7 is highly expressed in skeletal muscle (1). UBC7 is involved in the selective ubiquitylation of different substrates by the same E3 complex (2).

NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
The modification of proteins with ubiquitin is an important cellular mechanism for targeting abnormal or short-lived proteins for degradation. Ubiquitination involves at least three classes of enzymes: ubiquitin-activating enzymes, or E1s, ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes, or E2s, and ubiquitin-protein ligases, or E3s. This gene encodes a member of the E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family and catalyzes the covalent attachment of ubiquitin to other proteins. The protein may be involved in degradation of muscle-specific proteins. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Uniprot Description
Function: Accepts ubiquitin from the E1 complex and catalyzes its covalent attachment to other proteins. In vitro catalyzes 'Lys-48'-, as well as 'Lys-63'-linked polyubiquitination. May be involved in degradation of muscle-specific proteins. Mediates polyubiquitination of CYP3A4. Ref.7 Ref.8
Catalytic activity: ATP + ubiquitin + protein lysine = AMP + diphosphate + protein N-ubiquityllysine.
Pathway: Protein modification; protein ubiquitination.
Tissue specificity: Widely expressed, mainly in skeletal muscle. Ref.1
Sequence similarities: Belongs to the ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family.
Sequence caution: The sequence AAH26288.2 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous initiation.

Product Notes
The UBE2G1 (UBC7) ube2g1 (Catalog #AAA515237) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The tag for this protein is His tag!!Expression System||E.coli!!Source Note||Recombinant full-length human UBE2G1 (UBC7) was expressed in E. coli cells. AAA Biotech's UBE2G1 (UBC7) can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the UBE2G1 (UBC7) ube2g1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "UBE2G1 (UBC7), Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
