This protein is a bHLH transcription factor and shares similarity with another bHLH transcription factor, Twist. Inhibits the premature or ectopic differentiation of preosteoblast cells during osteogenesis, possibly by changing the internal signal transduction response of osteoblasts to external growth factors ().
