NCBI Description

This gene encodes an inhibitor of the calcium-dependent cysteine protease, calpain. This protein plays roles in multiple processes, including apoptosis, cell cycle regulation, and membrane fusion. Multiple protein isoforms exist which contain unique N-terminal domains, and multiple inhibitory domains that share homology with each other. Some isoforms may be tissue-specific. Two different pseudogenes of this gene are found on chromosome 19. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2014]

Uniprot Description

calpastatin: Specific inhibition of calpain (calcium-dependent cysteine protease). Plays a key role in postmortem tenderization of meat and have been proposed to be involved in muscle protein degradation in living tissue. Belongs to the protease inhibitor I27 (calpastatin) family. 7 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Inhibitor

Cellular Component: cytoplasm; cytosol; endoplasmic reticulum; membrane; nucleus

Molecular Function: cysteine protease inhibitor activity; protease binding; protease inhibitor activity

Biological Process: egg activation; negative regulation of catalytic activity; negative regulation of peptidase activity; protein catabolic process

Product Notes

The Cast cast (Catalog #AAA8246316) is a Peptide produced from Synthetic and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The amino acid sequence is listed below: Asp-Pro-Me t-Ser-Ser- Thr-Tyr-Il e-Glu-Glu- Leu-Gly-Ly s-Arg-Glu- Val-Thr-Il e-Pro-Pro- Lys-Tyr-Ar g-Glu-Leu- Leu-Ala. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Calpain Inhibitor, Peptide" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
