Related Product Information for Streptavidin protein
Streptavidin (MW ~66kD) binds specifically with biotin (244D). It is derived from the bacterium Streptomyces avidinii and bears a remarkable similarity to chicken egg-white avidin both in three-dimensional structure and its ability to bind biotin with extremely high affinity (Kd=10e-15M). It is a tetrameric protein capable of binding up to 4 biotin molecules. Unlike avidin, Streptavidin is non-glycosylated and is essentially neutral in charge, whereas avidin (pH 10.5) is basic at neutral pH. Because of this, streptavidin has considerably less non-specific binding resulting in less background. It has replaced avidin as the reagent of choice for most applications where protein interactions may cause background.

Product Notes

The Streptavidin (Catalog #AAA634542) is a Protein produced from Streptocyces avidinii and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's Streptavidin can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunoprecipitation (IP). Suitable for use in Immunoprecipitation. Dilution: Immunoprecipitation: 50-100ul of 10% suspension for each sample. Upon boiling, may denature to show four subunits of ~15kD each. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the Streptavidin for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Streptavidin, Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
