Host
Sf9 Insect Cells
Purity/Purification
Highly Purified
95% by RP-HPLC and SDS-PAGE.
Form/Format
Supplied as a liquid in 20mM HEPES, pH 8.0, 100mM sodium chloride, 20% glycerol.
Biological Activity
Standard ELISA test (checker-board analysis of positive/negative sera panels), immunodot with anti-IF autoantibody positive patient sera. Can be used for solid ELISA and fluid phase assays, 0.25-0.65µg/ml. Suitable for biotinylation and iodination.
Preparation and Storage
May be stored at 4 degree C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degree C. Aliquots are stable for 6 months at -20 degree C. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.

Uniprot Description

GIF: Promotes absorption of the essential vitamin cobalamin (Cbl) in the ileum. After interaction with CUBN, the GIF-cobalamin complex is internalized via receptor-mediated endocytosis. Defects in GIF are the cause of hereditary intrinsic factor deficiency (IFD); also known as congenital pernicious anemia. IFD is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by megaloblastic anemia. Belongs to the eukaryotic cobalamin transport proteins family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 11q13

Cellular Component: lysosomal lumen; extracellular space; microvillus; apical plasma membrane; extracellular region; endosome

Molecular Function: cobalamin binding

Biological Process: vitamin metabolic process; cobalamin metabolic process; cobalamin transport; cobalt ion transport; water-soluble vitamin metabolic process

Disease: Intrinsic Factor Deficiency

Product Notes

The Intrinsic Factor (Catalog #AAA637114) is an Active Protein produced from Sf9 Insect Cells and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Intrinsic Factor, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
