Related Product Information for SCN2B recombinant protein
Background: SCN2B plays a key role in the assembly, expression, and functional modulation of the heterotrimeric complex of the sodium channel. Voltage-gated sodium channels (NaV) are composed of one pore-forming alpha-subunit, which may be associated with either one or more beta-subunits. Alpha-subunits are composed for four homologous domains, each of which contains six transmembrane segments. They are responsible for action potential initiation and propagation in excitable cells, including nerve, muscle, and neuroendocrine cell types. SCN2B causes an increase in the plasma membrane surface area and in its folding into microvilli. SCN2B also interacts with TNR and may play a crucial role in clustering and regulation of activity of sodium channels at nodes of ranvier.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is the beta 2 subunit of the type II voltage-gated sodium channel. The encoded protein is involved in cell-cell adhesion and cell migration. Defects in this gene can be a cause of Brugada Syndrome, atrial fibrillation, or sudden infant death syndrome. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2015]

Uniprot Description

SCN2B: Crucial in the assembly, expression, and functional modulation of the heterotrimeric complex of the sodium channel. The subunit beta-2 causes an increase in the plasma membrane surface area and in its folding into microvilli. Interacts with TNR may play a crucial role in clustering and regulation of activity of sodium channels at nodes of Ranvier. Belongs to the sodium channel auxiliary subunit SCN2B (TC 8.A.17) family.

Protein type: Membrane protein, integral

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 11q23

Cellular Component: voltage-gated sodium channel complex

Molecular Function: sodium channel regulator activity

Biological Process: nervous system development; synaptic transmission; cardiac muscle contraction; response to pyrethroid

Product Notes

The SCN2B scn2b (Catalog #AAA8121557) is a Recombinant Protein produced from HEK293 Cells and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The amino acid sequence is listed below: Met1-Ala15 9. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "SCN2B, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
