Related Product Information for S100A2 recombinant protein
Background: The calcium-binding protein S100A2 is a member of the S100 family of proteins containing 2 EF-hand calcium-binding motifs. S100 family genes are located as a cluster on chromosome 1q21, and S100 proteins consisting of at least 20 members are involved in the regulation of a number of cellular processes such as cell-cycle progression and cell differentiation. S100A2 was first detected in lung and kidney, and is mainly expressed in a subset of tissues and cells such as breast epithelia and liver. The S100A2 protein is a homodimer that undergoes a conformational change upon binding of calcium, and the active form functions in regulating cell proliferation and differentiation, gene transcription, and p53-dependent growth arrest and apoptosis. Accordingly, this protein is regarded as a putative tumor suppressor, and thus chromosomal rearrangements and reduced expression of S100A2 gene have been implicated in certain carcinomas.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the S100 family of proteins containing 2 EF-hand calcium-binding motifs. S100 proteins are localized in the cytoplasm and/or nucleus of a wide range of cells, and involved in the regulation of a number of cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and differentiation. S100 genes include at least 13 members which are located as a cluster on chromosome 1q21. This protein may have a tumor suppressor function. Chromosomal rearrangements and altered expression of this gene have been implicated in breast cancer. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

S100A2: May act as a modulator against excess calcium accumulation in normal human mammary epithelial cells. May also play a role in suppressing tumor cell growth. Belongs to the S-100 family.

Protein type: Calcium-binding

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1q21

Molecular Function: identical protein binding; protein binding; calcium ion binding

Biological Process: endothelial cell migration

Product Notes

The S100A2 s100a2 (Catalog #AAA8120060) is a Recombinant Protein produced from HEK293 Cells and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The amino acid sequence is listed below: Met2-Pro98. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "S100A2, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
