Uniprot Description
RIMS1: a Rab effector protein involved in exocytosis. May act as scaffold protein that regulates neurotransmitter release at the active zone. Essential for maintaining normal probability of neurotransmitter release and for regulating release during short- term synaptic plasticity. Binds UNC13, SNAP25, SYT1, CACNA1B, and activated RAB3A, RAB3B and RAB3D. Interaction with SYT1 is enhanced by calcium ions. Interaction with SNAP25 is weaker in the presence of calcium ions. Defects are a cause of autosomal dominant cone-rod dystrophy (CORD7). Eight splice-variant isoforms have been described.
