Intended Uses: This sandwich kit is for the accurate quantitative detection of Rat Pancreatic Lipase (also known as PL/PNLIP) in serum, plasma, cell culture supernates, cell lysates, tissue homogenates.
Principles of the Assay: This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with Rat PL/PNLIP antibody. PL/PNLIP present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat PL/PNLIP Antibody is added and binds to PL/PNLIP in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated PL/PNLIP antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat PL/PNLIP. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

This gene encodes a member of the lipase family of proteins. The encoded enzyme is secreted by the pancreas and hydrolyzes triglycerides in the small intestine, and is essential for the efficient digestion of dietary fats. Inhibition of the encoded enzyme may prevent high-fat diet-induced obesity in mice and result in weight loss in human patients with obesity. Mutations in this gene cause congenital pancreatic lipase deficiency, a rare disorder characterized by steatorrhea. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2016]
