Related Product Information for MUC2 elisa kit
Description: This assay employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate MUC2 in samples. An antibody specific for MUC2 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any MUC2 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for MUC2 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of MUC2 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
Overview: Mucin 2 is particularly prominent in the gut where it is secreted from goblet cells in the epithelial lining into the lumen of the large intestine. There, mucin 2, along with small amounts of related-mucin proteins, polymerizes into a gel of which 80% by weight is oligosaccharide side chains which are added as post-translational modifications to the mucin proteins. This gel provides an insoluble mucous barrier that serves to protect the intestinal epithelium.
The mucin 2 protein features a central domain containing tandem repeats rich in threonine and proline that varies between 50 and 115 copies in different individuals. Alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene have been described, but their full-length nature is not known.

NCBI Description

an intestinal secretory mucin which forms dimers [RGD, Feb 2006]

Uniprot Description

Coats the epithelia of the intestines, airways, and other mucus membrane-containing organs. Thought to provide a protective, lubricating barrier against particles and infectious agents at mucosal surfaces. Major constituent of both the inner and outer mucus layers of the colon and may play a role in excluding bacteria from the inner mucus layer ().

Product Notes

The Rat MUC2 muc2 (Catalog #AAA287530) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA287530 ELISA Kit recognizes Rat MUC2. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Mucin-2 (MUC2), ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
