Intended Uses: The kit is a sandwich enzyme immunoassay for in vitro quantitative measurement of MR in rat tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological fluids.
Principle of the Assay: The microplate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with an antibody specific to MR. Standards or samples are then added to the appropriate microplate wells with a biotin-conjugated antibody specific to MR. Next, Avidin conjugated to Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to each microplate well and incubated. After TMB substrate solution is added, only those wells that contain MR, biotin-conjugated antibody and enzyme-conjugated Avidin will exhibit a change in color. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of sulphuric acid solution and the color change is measured spectrophotometrically at a wavelength of 450nm +/- 10nm. The concentration of MR in the samples is then determined by comparing the O.D. of the samples to the standard curve.

This gene encodes the mineralocorticoid receptor, which mediates aldosterone actions on salt and water balance within restricted target cells. The protein functions as a ligand-dependent transcription factor that binds to mineralocorticoid response elements in order to transactivate target genes. Mutations in this gene cause autosomal dominant pseudohypoaldosteronism type I, a disorder characterized by urinary salt wasting. Defects in this gene are also associated with early onset hypertension with severe exacerbation in pregnancy. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
