NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the presenilin family. Presenilins are catalytic components of the multi-subunit gamma-secretase complex, which mediates critical cellular processes through cleavage of type I transmembrane proteins including Notch receptors and the amyloid precursor protein. The encoded protein contains eight transmembrane domains and is localized to the endoplasmic reticulum, where it may play a role in calcium homeostasis. Following assembly of the gamma-secretase complex, the encoded protein is cleaved into N- and C-terminal fragments and the activated complex is released from the endoplasmic reticulum. Inactivation of this gene results in impaired synaptic function in a mouse model for Alzheimer's disease. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been observed for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2011]

Uniprot Description

PSEN2: probable catalytic subunit of the gamma-secretase complex, an endoprotease complex that catalyzes the intramembrane cleavage of integral membrane proteins such as Notch receptors and APP (beta-amyloid precursor protein). An integral membrane protein of the Golgi and endoplasmic reticulum. Requires the other members of the gamma-secretase complex to have a protease activity. May play a role in intracellular signaling and gene expression or in linking chromatin to the nuclear membrane. May function in the cytoplasmic partitioning of proteins. Two alternative splice isoforms have been identified.

Product Notes

The Mouse Psen2 psen2 (Catalog #AAA2880898) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA2880898 ELISA Kit recognizes Mouse Psen2. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Presenilin-2, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
