Biological Significance
PRMT1 methylate?s the guanidino nitrogens of arginyl residues present in a glycine and arginine-rich domain methylate?s SUPT5H. The PRMT1 protein functions as a histone methyltransferase specific for H4. PRMT1 is an essential factor in oncogenesis and is a potential novel therapeutic target in cancer. PRMT1-mediated methylation serves as a positive modulator of IR/IRS-1/PI3K pathway and glucose uptake in skeletal muscle cells. CAF1 is a new regulator of PRMT1-dependent arginine methylation. PRMT1 arginine-methylate?s MRE11 therefore it regulates the activity of MRE11-RAD50-NBS1 complex during the intra-S-phase DNA damage checkpoint response.
Expression System
E Coli
Preparation and Storage
Store at -80 degree C

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the protein arginine N-methyltransferase (PRMT) family. Post-translational modification of target proteins by PRMTs plays an important regulatory role in many biological processes, whereby PRMTs methylate arginine residues by transferring methyl groups from S-adenosyl-L-methionine to terminal guanidino nitrogen atoms. The encoded protein is a type I PRMT and is responsible for the majority of cellular arginine methylation activity. Increased expression of this gene may play a role in many types of cancer. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been observed for this gene, and a pseudogene of this gene is located on the long arm of chromosome 5. Uniprot Description

PRMT1: Arginine methyltransferase that methylates (mono and asymmetric dimethylation) the guanidino nitrogens of arginyl residues present in proteins such as ESR1, histone H2, H3 and H4, PIAS1, HNRNPA1, HNRNPD, NFATC2IP, SUPT5H, TAF15 and EWS. Constitutes the main enzyme that mediates monomethylation and asymmetric dimethylation of histone H4 'Arg-4' (H4R3me1 and H4R3me2a, respectively), a specific tag for epigenetic transcriptional activation. Together with dimethylated PIAS1, represses STAT1 transcriptional activity, in the late phase of interferon gamma (IFN-gamma) signaling. May be involved in the regulation of TAF15 transcriptional activity, act as an activator of estrogen receptor (ER)-mediated transactivation, play a key role in neurite outgrowth and act as a negative regulator of megakaryocytic differentiation, by modulating p38 MAPK pathway. Homodimer and heterodimer with PRMT8. The dimer can then associate to form a homohexamer. Interacts with ILF3, BTG1, BTG2, SUPT5H and interferon-alpha/beta receptor 1. Interacts with NFATC2IP. Widely expressed. By BTG1, BTG2 and ILF3. Belongs to the protein arginine N-methyltransferase family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The PRMT1 prmt1 (Catalog #AAA5304496) is a Recombinant Protein produced from Human and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "PRMT1, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
