NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the voltage-dependent anion channel pore-forming family of proteins that are considered the main pathway for metabolite diffusion across the mitochondrial outer membrane. The encoded protein is also thought to be involved in the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway via regulation of BCL2-antagonist/killer 1 protein activity. Pseudogenes have been identified on chromosomes 1, 2, 12 and 21, and alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, May 2010]

Uniprot Description

VDAC2: Forms a channel through the mitochondrial outer membrane that allows diffusion of small hydrophilic molecules. The channel adopts an open conformation at low or zero membrane potential and a closed conformation at potentials above 30-40 mV. The open state has a weak anion selectivity whereas the closed state is cation- selective. Interacts with hexokinases. Expressed in all tissues examined. Belongs to the eukaryotic mitochondrial porin family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The VDAC2 vdac2 (Catalog #AAA6443033) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The VDAC2 (Voltage-dependent Anion-selective Channel Protein 2, POR) (HRP) reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's VDAC2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). WB: 1:500-1:2000 Applications are based on unconjugated antibody. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the VDAC2 vdac2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "VDAC2, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
