Also involved in selective autophagy against bacterial pathogens, by being required for phagophore/preautophagosomal structure biogenesis and maturation. Interacts with ATG5; the interaction is direct. Interacts with WIPI2. Interacts with the ATG5-ATG12 conjugate, the interaction is however mutually exclusive with ATG16, since it does not interact with ATG12-ATG5-ATG16 complex.
