Related Product Information for anti-Tau antibody
Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) is the most common neurodegenerative disease, affecting 10% of seniors over the age of 65 (1). It was named after Alois Alzheimer, a German scientist who discovered tangled bundles of fibrils where neurons had once been in the brain of a deceased patient in 1907 (2). Tau (tubulin-associated unit) is normally located in the axons of neurons where it stabilizes microtubules. Tauopathies such as AD are characterized by neurofibrillary tangles containing paired helical filaments (PHFs). A truncated 95-amino acid fragment corresponding to residues 297-391 of full-length tau has been shown to assemble into PHF-like fibrils in vitro in the absence of additives or templates (3). This fragment has been found in the core of PHFs from AD brains and forms filaments that closely resemble PHFs isolated from AD brains (3).

Uniprot Description

Tau: a microtubule-associated protein that regulates microtubule assembly and stability. Apparently involved in the establishment and maintenance of neuronal polarity. Mutations can result in several neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Pick's disease, frontotemporal dementia, cortico-basal degeneration and progressive supranuclear palsy. The C-terminus binds axonal microtubules while the N-terminus binds neural plasma membrane components, suggesting that tau functions as a linker. Axonal polarity is predetermined by tau localization (in the neuronal cell) in the domain of the cell body defined by the centrosome. Nine differentially spliced isoforms have been described. The short isoforms allow plasticity of the cytoskeleton, whereas the longer isoforms may preferentially play a role in its stabilization.

Product Notes

The Tau mapt (Catalog #AAA8005944) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Tau Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Tau can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). WB: 1:1000 A 1:1000 dilution was sufficient for detection of tau in 15ug of mouse, rat brain cell lysates by ECL immunoblot analysis using goat anti-rabbit IgG: HRP as the secondary antibody. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the Tau mapt for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Tau, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
