Related Product Information for anti-SUMO3 antibody
Covalent modification of target lysines by SUMO (small ubiquitin-like modifier) modulates processes such as protein localization, transcription, nuclear transport, mitosis, DNA replication and repair, signal transduction, and viral reproduction. SUMO does not seem to be involved in protein degradation and may in fact function as an antagonist of ubiquitin in the degradation process. The SUMO family consists of SUMO1 and closely related homologs SUMO2, SUMO3, and SUMO4. Sumoylation has been shown to regulate a wide range of proteins, including MDM2, PIAS, PML, RanGAP1, RanBP2, p53, p73, HIPK2, TEL, c-Jun, Fas, Daxx, TNFRI, Topo-I, Topo-II, PARK2, WRN, Sp100, IkB-alpha, Androgen receptor (AR), GLUT1/4, CaMK, DNMT3B, TDG, HIF1A, CHD3, EXOSC9, RAD51, and viral targets such as CMV-IE1/2, EBV-BZLF1, and HPV/BPV-E1.

NCBI Description

SUMO proteins, such as SUMO3, and ubiquitin (see MIM 191339) posttranslationally modify numerous cellular proteins and affect their metabolism and function. However, unlike ubiquitination, which targets proteins for degradation, sumoylation participates in a number of cellular processes, such as nuclear transport, transcriptional regulation, apoptosis, and protein stability (Su and Li, 2002 [PubMed 12383504]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008]

Uniprot Description

Function: Ubiquitin-like protein which can be covalently attached to target lysines either as a monomer or as a lysine-linked polymer. Does not seem to be involved in protein degradation and may function as an antagonist of ubiquitin in the degradation process. Plays a role in a number of cellular processes such as nuclear transport, DNA replication and repair, mitosis and signal transduction. Covalent attachment to its substrates requires prior activation by the E1 complex SAE1-SAE2 and linkage to the E2 enzyme UBE2I, and can be promoted by an E3 ligase such as PIAS1-4, RANBP2 or CBX4. Ref.9 Ref.15

Subunit structure: Covalently attached to a number of proteins

By similarity. Interacts with USP25 (via ts SIM domain); the interaction sumoylates USP25 and inhibits its ubiquitin hydrolyzing activity. Interacts with SAE2 and UBE2I. Ref.9 Ref.11 Ref.15

Subcellular location: Cytoplasm Ref.10.

Tissue specificity: Expressed predominantly in liver. Ref.13

Post-translational modification: Polymeric chains can be formed through Lys-11 cross-linking.Cleavage of precursor form by SENP1, SENP2 or SENP5 is necessary for function.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the ubiquitin family. SUMO subfamily.Contains 1 ubiquitin-like domain.

Caution: Frequently wrongly assigned as SMT3A in many databases and publications. However, according to initial nomenclature, SUMO3 corresponds to SMT3B (Ref.8).

Product Notes

The SUMO3 sumo3 (Catalog #AAA645864) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The SUMO3, CT (Small Ubiquitin-Related Modifier 3, SUMO-3, Ubiquitin-Like Protein SMT3A, SMT3 Homolog 1, SUMO-2, SMT3A, SMT3H1) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's SUMO3 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EL/EIA), Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). Suitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot and Immunohistochemistry. Dilution: Western Blot: 1-2ug/ml Immunohistochemistry (Formalin fixed paraffin embedded): 5ug/ml. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the SUMO3 sumo3 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "SUMO3, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
