Related Product Information for anti-SSH2 antibody
SSH2 (slingshot homolog 2) is a 1, 423 amino acid protein that localizes to both the cytoplasm and the cytoskeleton and is a human homolog of the Drosophila slingshot (ssh) protein. Containing one tyrosine-protein phosphatase domain, SSH2 functions as a protein phosphatase that regulates Actin filament dynamics via the dephosphorylation of target proteins, such as Cofilin, which mediate Actin filament assembly and disassembly. Four isoforms of SSH2 exist due to alternative splicing events. The gene encoding SSH2 maps to human chromosome 17, which comprises over 2.5% of the human genome and encodes over 1, 200 genes. Two key tumor suppressor genes are associated with chromosome 17, namely, p53 and BRCA1. Tumor suppressor p53 is necessary for maintenance of cellular genetic integrity by moderating cell fate through DNA repair versus cell death. Malfunction or loss of p53 expression is associated with malignant cell growth and Li-Fraumeni syndrome.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a protein tyrosine phosphatase that plays a key role in the regulation of actin filaments. The encoded protein dephosphorylates and activates cofilin, which promotes actin filament depolymerization. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2013]

Uniprot Description

SSH2: Protein phosphatase which regulates actin filament dynamics. Dephosphorylates and activates the actin binding/depolymerizing factor cofilin, which subsequently binds to actin filaments and stimulates their disassembly. Inhibitory phosphorylation of cofilin is mediated by LIMK1, which may also be dephosphorylated and inactivated by this protein. Belongs to the protein-tyrosine phosphatase family. 4 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Actin-binding; EC 3.1.3.16; EC 3.1.3.48; Protein phosphatase, dual-specificity

Product Notes

The SSH2 ssh2 (Catalog #AAA3009374) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The SSH2 Polyclonal Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's SSH2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). WB: 1:200-1:500. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the SSH2 ssh2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "SSH2, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
