SLC27A5 (Solute Carrier Family 27 Member 5) is a Protein Coding gene. The SLC27A5 gene, located on 19q13.43, is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, cow, mouse, and rat. The protein encoded by this gene is an isozyme of very long-chain acyl-CoA synthetase (VLCS). It is capable of activating very-long-chain fatty-acids containing 24-and 26-carbons. Fatty acid transport protein 5 (FATP5/Slc27a5) is a multifunctional protein that in vitro increases both the uptake of fluorescently labeled long-chain fatty acid (LCFA) analogs and bile acid/coenzyme A ligase activity on overexpression. SLC27A5 acts as a novel tumor suppressor by suppressing TXNRD1 expression via the KEAP1/NRF2 pathway in HCC.
