NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a glycoprotein, belonging to the pentraxin family of proteins, which has a characteristic pentameric organization. These family members have considerable sequence homology which is thought to be the result of gene duplication. The binding of the encoded protein to proteins in the pathological amyloid cross-beta fold suggests its possible role as a chaperone. This protein is also thought to control the degradation of chromatin. It has been demonstrated that this protein binds to apoptotic cells at an early stage, which raises the possibility that it is involved in dealing with apoptotic cells in vivo. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2008]

Uniprot Description

APCS: Can interact with DNA and histones and may scavenge nuclear material released from damaged circulating cells. May also function as a calcium-dependent lectin. SAP is a precursor of amyloid component P which is found in basement membrane and associated with amyloid deposits. Belongs to the pentaxin family.

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1q23.2

Cellular Component: extracellular matrix; extracellular region; extracellular space; nucleus

Molecular Function: calcium ion binding; carbohydrate binding; complement component C1q binding; unfolded protein binding; virion binding

Biological Process: acute-phase response; cellular protein metabolic process; chaperone-mediated protein complex assembly; innate immune response; negative regulation of acute inflammatory response; negative regulation of monocyte differentiation; negative regulation of viral process; negative regulation of virion penetration into host cell; protein folding

Product Notes

The SAP apcs (Catalog #AAA2026119) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Polyclonal Antibody to Serum Amyloid P Component (SAP) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Serum Amyloid P Component can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunocytochemistry (ICC), Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Formalin/Paraffin, ELISA (EIA). Western blotting: 0.5-2ug/ml Immunocytochemistry in formalin fixed cells: 5-20ug/ml Immunohistochemistry in formalin fixed frozen section: 5-20ug/ml Immunohistochemistry in paraffin section: 5-20ug/ml Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay: 0.05-2ug/ml Optimal working dilutions must be determined by end user. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the SAP apcs for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Serum Amyloid P Component, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
