Mediates the electrodiffusion of the luminal sodium (and water, which follows osmotically) through the apical membrane of epithelial cells. Plays an essential role in electrolyte and blood pressure homeostasis, but also in airway surface liquid homeostasis, which is important for proper clearance of mucus. Controls the reabsorption of sodium in kidney, colon, lung and sweat glands.

NCBI Description

Nonvoltage-gated, amiloride-sensitive, sodium channels control fluid and electrolyte transport across epithelia in many organs. These channels are heteromeric complexes consisting of 3 subunits: alpha, beta, and gamma. This gene encodes the alpha subunit, and mutations in this gene have been associated with pseudohypoaldosteronism type 1 (PHA1), a rare salt wasting disease resulting from target organ unresponsiveness to mineralocorticoids. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2009]

Uniprot Description

ENaC-alpha: Sodium permeable non-voltage-sensitive ion channel inhibited by the diuretic amiloride. Mediates the electrodiffusion of the luminal sodium (and water, which follows osmotically) through the apical membrane of epithelial cells. Controls the reabsorption of sodium in kidney, colon, lung and sweat glands. Also plays a role in taste perception. Probable heterotrimer containing one alpha, one beta and one gamma subunit. A delta subunit can replace the alpha subunit. Interacts with the WW domains of NEDD4, NEDD4L, WWP1 and WWP2. By aldosterone. Highly expressed in kidney and lung. Detected at intermediate levels in pancreas and liver, and at low levels in heart and placenta. Isoform 1 and isoform 2 predominate in all tissues. Expression of isoform 3, isoform 4 and isoform 5 is very low or not detectable, except in lung and heart. Activated by WNK1, WNK2, WNK3 and WNK4. Belongs to the amiloride-sensitive sodium channel (TC 1.A.6) family. SCNN1A subfamily. 6 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The SCNN1A / ENaC Apha scnn1a (Catalog #AAA2400085) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-SCNN1A / ENaC Apha Antibody (aa182-459) IHC-plus reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's SCNN1A / ENaC Apha can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Paraffin. IHC-P (7.5 ug/ml). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the SCNN1A / ENaC Apha scnn1a for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "SCNN1A / ENaC Apha, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
