NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a tetrodotoxin-resistant voltage-gated sodium channel alpha subunit. The properties of the channel formed by the encoded transmembrane protein can be altered by interaction with different beta subunits. This protein may be involved in the onset of pain associated with peripheral neuropathy. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2014]

Uniprot Description

SCN10A: This protein mediates the voltage-dependent sodium ion permeability of excitable membranes. Assuming opened or closed conformations in response to the voltage difference across the membrane, the protein forms a sodium-selective channel through which sodium ions may pass in accordance with their electrochemical gradient. It is a tetrodotoxin-resistant sodium channel isoform. Its electrophysiological properties vary depending on the type of the associated beta subunits (in vitro). Plays a role in neuropathic pain mechanisms. Belongs to the sodium channel (TC 1.A.1.10) family. Nav1.8/SCN10A subfamily.

Protein type: Channel, sodium; Membrane protein, integral; Membrane protein, multi-pass

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 3p22.2

Cellular Component: voltage-gated sodium channel complex

Molecular Function: voltage-gated sodium channel activity

Biological Process: regulation of heart rate; sensory perception; sodium ion transport; generation of action potential; sensory perception of pain

Disease: Episodic Pain Syndrome, Familial, 2

Product Notes

The SCN10A scn10a (Catalog #AAA9402848) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The SCN10A Antibody reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's SCN10A can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry (IHC). Immunohistochemistry: 1:25-1:100. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the SCN10A scn10a for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "SCN10A, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
