Uniprot Description

PUMA: essential mediator of p53-dependent and independent apoptosis. Binds to anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 family members to induce mitochondrial dysfunction and caspase activation. Interacts with BCL2, BCL2L1, MCL1 and BCL2A1. Functions by promoting partial unfolding of BCL2L1 and dissociation of BCL2L1 from p53. Regulates ER stress-induced neuronal apoptosis. Induced by DNA damage, glucocorticoid treatment, growth factor deprivation and p53. Ubiquitously expressed. Ubiquitously expressed. Belongs to the Bcl-2 family, BH3-only pro-apoptotic subclass. Four isoforms of the human protein are apparently produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Apoptosis; Mitochondrial

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1q21

Cellular Component: lysosome; mitochondrion

Molecular Function: ATPase binding; protein binding

Biological Process: activation of cysteine-type endopeptidase activity involved in apoptotic process; apoptosis; brain development; cellular response to DNA damage stimulus; determination of adult lifespan; intrinsic apoptotic signaling pathway in response to DNA damage by p53 class mediator; negative regulation of endoplasmic reticulum calcium ion concentration; negative regulation of growth; positive regulation of apoptosis; positive regulation of neuron apoptotic process; positive regulation of protein homooligomerization; release of cytochrome c from mitochondria; release of sequestered calcium ion into cytosol

Product Notes

The PUMA bbc3 (Catalog #AAA2001810) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Polyclonal Antibody to p53 Upregulated Modulator Of Apoptosis (PUMA) reacts with Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's p53 Upregulated Modulator Of Apoptosis (PUMA) can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunocytochemistry (ICC), Immunohistochemistry (IHC) - Formalin/Paraffin, ELISA (EIA), Western Blot (WB). Western blotting: 1:100-400 Immunocytochemistry in formalin fixed cells: 1:100-500 Immunohistochemistry in formalin fixed frozen section: 1:100-500 Immunohistochemistry in paraffin section: 1:50-200 Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay: 1:100-200. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the PUMA bbc3 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "p53 Upregulated Modulator Of Apoptosis (PUMA), Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
