Biological Significance
Neuregulin 2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the NRG2 gene. Neuregulin 2 (NRG2) is a novel member of the neuregulin family of growth and differentiation factors. The NRG2 gene is mapped to 5q31.2. Through interaction with the ErbB family of receptors, NRG2 induces the growth and differentiation of epithelial, neuronal, glial, and other types of cells. The human NRG2 gene contains 12 exons and the mouse Nrg2 gene contains 12 exons and spans about 180 kb. The NRG2 genomic structure is similar to that of neuregulin 1 (NRG1), another member of the neuregulin family of ligands. NRG1 and NRG2 mediate distinct biological processes by acting at different sites in tissues and eliciting different biological responses in cells. In particular, the neuregulin-ERBB signaling pathways play crucial roles in regulating the proliferation and differentiation of Schwann cells, the myelin-forming cells in the peripheral nervous system.
Immunogen
Neuregulin 2 antibody was raised in Rabbit using a synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence in the middle region of human Neuregulin 2, identical to the related rat sequence, and different from the related Rabbit sequence by one amino acid, as the immunogen
Preparation and Storage
Store at 4 degree C for short term storage. For long term storage aliquot and store at -20 degree C, avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a novel member of the neuregulin family of growth and differentiation factors. Through interaction with the ERBB family of receptors, this protein induces the growth and differentiation of epithelial, neuronal, glial, and other types of cells. The gene consists of 12 exons and the genomic structure is similar to that of neuregulin 1, another member of the neuregulin family of ligands. The products of these genes mediate distinct biological processes by acting at different sites in tissues and eliciting different biological responses in cells. This gene is located close to the region for demyelinating Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease locus, but is not responsible for this disease. Alternative transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been described. [provided by RefSeq, May 2010]

Uniprot Description

NRG2: Direct ligand for ERBB3 and ERBB4 tyrosine kinase receptors. Concomitantly recruits ERBB1 and ERBB2 coreceptors, resulting in ligand-stimulated tyrosine phosphorylation and activation of the ERBB receptors. May also promote the heterodimerization with the EGF receptor. Belongs to the neuregulin family. 8 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Ligand, receptor tyrosine kinase; Membrane protein, integral

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 5q31.2

Cellular Component: extracellular space; integral to membrane; plasma membrane; extracellular region

Molecular Function: growth factor activity; receptor binding

Biological Process: epidermal growth factor receptor signaling pathway; embryonic development; phosphoinositide-mediated signaling; fibroblast growth factor receptor signaling pathway; nerve growth factor receptor signaling pathway; organ development; innate immune response; signal transduction

Product Notes

The NRG2 nrg2 (Catalog #AAA5302186) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's Neuregulin 2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). Optimal conditions to be determined by the end user. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the NRG2 nrg2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Neuregulin 2, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
