The protein represents a conventional non-muscle myosin; it should not be confused with the unconventional myosin-14 (MYO14). Myosins are actin-dependent motor proteins with diverse functions including regulation of cytokinesis, cell motility, and cell polarity. Mutations in this gene result in one form of autosomal dominant hearing impairment. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the myosin superfamily. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2011]

Uniprot Description

MYH14: Cellular myosin that appears to play a role in cytokinesis, cell shape, and specialized functions such as secretion and capping. Myosin is a hexameric protein that consists of 2 heavy chain subunits (MHC), 2 alkali light chain subunits (MLC) and 2 regulatory light chain subunits (MLC-2). High levels of expression are found in small intestine, colon and skeletal muscle. Expression is low in organs composed mainly of smooth muscle, such as aorta, uterus and urinary bladder. No detectable expression is found in thymus, spleen, placenta and lymphocytes. 5 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Motor; Motility/polarity/chemotaxis

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 19q13.33

Cellular Component: actomyosin; axon; brush border; cytosol; growth cone; membrane; myelin sheath; myosin II complex; stress fiber

Molecular Function: actin filament binding; actin-dependent ATPase activity; ATP binding; calmodulin binding; microfilament motor activity

Product Notes

The MYH14 myh14 (Catalog #AAA2400381) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-MYH14 Antibody (aa1051-1100) IHC-plus reacts with Mouse, Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's MYH14 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Paraffin, Western Blot (WB), ELISA (EIA). ELISA (1:5000) IHC-P (20 ug/ml) WB (1:500 - 1:1000). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the MYH14 myh14 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "MYH14, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
