Uniprot Description

PAPD1: Polymerase that creates the 3' poly(A) tail of mitochondrial transcripts. Can use all four nucleotides, but has higher activity with ATP and UTP (in vitro). Plays a role in replication-dependent histone mRNA degradation. May be involved in the terminal uridylation of mature histone mRNAs before their degradation is initiated. Might be responsible for the creation of some UAA stop codons which are not encoded in mtDNA. Defects in MTPAP are the cause of spastic ataxia autosomal recessive type 4 (SPAX4). A slowly progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by cerebellar ataxia, spastic paraparesis, dysarthria, and optic atrophy. Affected individuals exhibit a drastic decrease in poly(A) tail length of representative mitochondrial mRNA transcripts, including COX1 and RNA14 (PubMed:20970105). Belongs to the DNA polymerase type-B-like family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: EC 2.7.7.19; RNA processing; Transferase

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 10p11.23

Product Notes

The MTPAP mtpap (Catalog #AAA9142959) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The MTPAP Rabbit pAb reacts with Human, Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's MTPAP can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). WB: 1:500-1:2000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the MTPAP mtpap for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. The amino acid sequence is listed below: MVIFFLQRRS PPILPTLDSL KTLADAEDKC VIEGNNCTFV RDLSRIKPSQ NTETLELLLK EFFEYFGNFA FDKNSINIRQ GREQNKPDSS PLYIQNPFET SLNISKNVSQ SQLQKFVDLA RESAWILQQE DTDRPSISSN RPWGLVSLLL PSAPNRKSFT KKKSNKFAIE TVKNLLESLK GNRTENFTKT SGKRTISTQT. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "MTPAP, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
