Related Product Information for anti-MARCKS antibody
Myristoylated Alanine-Rich C Kinase Substrate (MARCKS) is a major substrate for phosphorylation by protein kinase C (PKC) (Ouimet et al.,1990) and is concentrated in synapses of neurons. It appears to function in synaptic vesicle cycling and has been shown to bind both actin and calmodulin in vitro (Hartwig et al. 1992). Deletion of the MARCKS gene in mice results in embryonic brain defects and death (Stumpo et al. 1995). MARCKS is a member of a family of calmodulin binding proteins and phosphorylation of Ser152/156 modulates the binding of MARCKS to calmodulin (Verghese et al., 1994).

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a substrate for protein kinase C. It is localized to the plasma membrane and is an actin filament crosslinking protein. Phosphorylation by protein kinase C or binding to calcium-calmodulin inhibits its association with actin and with the plasma membrane, leading to its presence in the cytoplasm. The protein is thought to be involved in cell motility, phagocytosis, membrane trafficking and mitogenesis. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

MARCKS: the most prominent cellular substrate of protein kinase C. Binds calmodulin, actin, and synapsin. A filamentous actin cross-linking protein. Critical for normal brain development. Phosphorylation by PKC displaces it from the plasma membrane, inhibiting F-actin cross-linking activity. Plays a role in growth cone adhesion: its nonphosphorylated form stabilizes integrin-mediated adhesions, and its phosphorylation-triggered release from adhesions causes localized growth cone detachment. Highly expressed in immature T and B lymphocytes: its expression is highest in CD4-8- T cells and B-cell blasts generated by antigen receptor signaling. Its expression and phosphorylation are closely linked to microglial activation processes involved in pathological conditions such as neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration.

Product Notes

The MARCKS marcks (Catalog #AAA500078) is an Antibody produced from Chicken and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-MARCKS Antibody reacts with Human Predicted: Non-human primate and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's MARCKS can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunofluorescence (IF), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). WB: 1:10,000 IF: 1:1000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the MARCKS marcks for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "MARCKS, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
