Related Product Information for anti-A108 antibody
Cadherins are a multigene family of Ca++-dependent cell adhesion molecules. They are transmembrane glycoproteins consisting of an extracellular domain, which mediates Ca++-dependent intercellular adhesion by homophilic interactions, a transmembrane region and a cytoplasmic domain. The extracellular domain is divided into a series of subdomains designated EC1-EC5. Homolgies between different members of the cadherin family are most prominent in the cytoplasmic domain and in EC1 and EC2 and much less so in EC5 of the extracellular domain and in the transmembrane region. The binding properties and specificities of the adhesive function are located in the N-terminal part of the molecules. Four members of the cadherin family have been identified and molecularly cloned from mammalian cells. These include the neuronal (N), epithelial (E), placental (P) and muscle (M) cadherins. M-cadherin is not found in fibroblasts but is expressed at low level in myoblasts and is upregulated following induction of myotube formation, suggesting a specific function in skeletal muscle cell differentiation.

NCBI Description

This gene is a member of the cadherin superfamily of genes, encoding calcium-dependent intercellular adhesion glycoproteins. Cadherins consist of an extracellular domain containing 5 cadherin domains, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic domain. Transcripts from this particular cadherin are expressed in myoblasts and upregulated in myotubule-forming cells. The protein is thought to be essential for the control of morphogenetic processes, specifically myogenesis, and may provide a trigger for terminal muscle cell differentiation. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

CDH15: Cadherins are calcium-dependent cell adhesion proteins. They preferentially interact with themselves in a homophilic manner in connecting cells; cadherins may thus contribute to the sorting of heterogeneous cell types. M-cadherin is part of the myogenic program and may provide a trigger for terminal muscle differentiation. A chromosomal aberration involving CDH15 and KIRREL3 is found in a patient with severe mental retardation and dysmorphic facial features. Translocation t(11;16)(q24.2;q24). Defects in CDH15 are the cause of mental retardation autosomal dominant type 3 (MRD3). Mental retardation is characterized by significantly sub-average general intellectual functioning associated with impairments in adaptative behavior and manifested during the developmental period.

Product Notes

The A108 cdh15 (Catalog #AAA3002312) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The M-cadherin (A108) Polyclonal Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's M-cadherin can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). WB: 1:500-1:1000 IHC: 1:50-1:200. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the A108 cdh15 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "M-cadherin, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
