NCBI Description

Mouse studies suggest that this gene functions during normal adipose tissue development and may play a role in human triglyceride metabolism. This gene represents a candidate gene for human lipodystrophy, characterized by loss of body fat, fatty liver, hypertriglyceridemia, and insulin resistance. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

LPIN2: Plays important roles in controlling the metabolism of fatty acids at differents levels. Acts as a magnesium-dependent phosphatidate phosphatase enzyme which catalyzes the conversion of phosphatidic acid to diacylglycerol during triglyceride, phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine biosynthesis in the reticulum endoplasmic membrane. Acts also as a nuclear transcriptional coactivator for PPARGC1A to modulate lipid metabolism. Defects in LPIN2 are the cause of Majeed syndrome (MAJEEDS). An autosomal recessive syndrome characterized by chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis that is of early onset with a lifelong course, congenital dyserythropoietic anemia that presents as hypochromic, microcytic anemia during the first year of life and ranges from mild to transfusion-dependent, and transient inflammatory dermatosis, often manifesting as Sweet syndrome (neutrophilic skin infiltration). Belongs to the lipin family.

Protein type: Transcription, coactivator/corepressor; EC 3.1.3.4; Phosphatase (non-protein)

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 18p11.31

Cellular Component: endoplasmic reticulum membrane; nucleus; cytosol

Molecular Function: phosphatidate phosphatase activity; transcription coactivator activity

Biological Process: transcription, DNA-dependent; dephosphorylation; phospholipid metabolic process; glycerophospholipid biosynthetic process; phosphatidylethanolamine biosynthetic process; phosphatidylcholine biosynthetic process; triacylglycerol biosynthetic process; positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; lipid metabolic process; cellular lipid metabolic process; fatty acid catabolic process

Product Notes

The LPIN2 lpin2 (Catalog #AAA9212263) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The immunogen sequence is 262-288. The LPIN2 Antibody (Center) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's LPIN2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Flow Cytometry (FC/FACS), ELISA (EIA), Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). WB~~1:1000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the LPIN2 lpin2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "LPIN2, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
