NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the keratin family. The keratins are intermediate filament proteins responsible for the structural integrity of epithelial cells and are subdivided into cytokeratins and hair keratins. The type I cytokeratins consist of acidic proteins which are arranged in pairs of heterotypic keratin chains. This cytokeratin is a major cellular protein of mature enterocytes and goblet cells and is specifically expressed in the gastric and intestinal mucosa. The type I cytokeratin genes are clustered in a region of chromosome 17q12-q21. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

K20: a type I cytoskeletal keratin. The keratins are intermediate filament proteins responsible for the structural integrity of epithelial cells and are subdivided into cytokeratins and hair keratins. There are two types of cytoskeletal and microfibrillar keratin: type I (acidic; 40-55 kDa) [K9 to K20] and type II (neutral to basic; 56-70 kDa) [K1 to K8]. Both a basic and an acidic keratin are required for filament assembly.

Protein type: Cytoskeletal

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 17q21.2

Cellular Component: cytoplasm; intermediate filament

Molecular Function: protein binding; structural constituent of cytoskeleton

Biological Process: regulation of protein secretion; apoptosis; cellular response to stress; intermediate filament organization

Product Notes

The KRT20 krt20 (Catalog #AAA6424243) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The KRT20 (Keratin 20, Cytokeratin 20, K20, KRT21, CK 20, Protein IT) (Biotin) reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's KRT20 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunofluorescence (IF), Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). IF: 1:50-1:200 WB: 1:500-1:2000 IHC: 1:50-1:200 Applications are based on unconjugated antibody. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the KRT20 krt20 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "KRT20, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
