Biological Significance
Keratin 76 is a keratin protein. Keratin refers to a family of fibrous structural proteins. Keratin is the key structural material making up the outer layer of human skin. It is also the key structural component of hair and nails. Keratin monomers assemble into bundles to form intermediate filaments, which are tough and insoluble and form strong unmineralized tissues found in reptiles, birds, amphibians, and mammals. The only other biological matter known to approximate the toughness of keratinized tissue is chitin.
Cross-Reactivity
Human
Immunogen
Synthetic peptide (C-LGGAGSISVSHSGM) of human keratin K76 , coupled to KLH.
Preparation and Storage
Store at 4°C short term
Long term -20°C
Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles

NCBI Description

Keratins are intermediate filament proteins responsible for the structural integrity of epithelial cells and are subdivided into epithelial keratins and hair keratins. The type II keratins are clustered in a region of chromosome 12q13. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2009]

Uniprot Description

K76: a type II cytoskeletal keratin. The keratins are intermediate filament proteins responsible for the structural integrity of epithelial cells and are subdivided into cytokeratins and hair keratins. There are two types of cytoskeletal and microfibrillar keratin: type I (acidic; 40-55 kDa) [K9 to K20] and type II (neutral to basic; 56-70 kDa) [K1 to K8]. Both a basic and an acidic keratin are required for filament assembly.

Protein type: Cytoskeletal

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 12q13.13

Cellular Component: keratin filament; intermediate filament; nucleus

Molecular Function: structural molecule activity

Biological Process: cytoskeleton organization and biogenesis

Product Notes

The KRT76 krt76 (Catalog #AAA833247) is an Antibody produced from Guinea Pig and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's Keratin K76 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry-Frozen/Parafin (IHC-Fr/P), Western Blot (WB). IHC-Fr: 1:200 IHC-P: 1:100- microwave treatment recommended) WB: 1:3000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the KRT76 krt76 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Keratin K76, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
