Related Product Information for anti-K18 antibody
Description: Involved in the uptake of thrombin-antithrombin complexes by hepatic cells (By similarity). When phosphorylated, plays a role in filament reorganization. Involved in the delivery of mutated CFTR to the plasma membrane. Together with KRT8, is involved in interleukin-6 (IL-6)-mediated barrier protection.

Post Translational Modifications: Phosphorylation at Ser-34 increases during mitosis. Hyperphosphorylated at Ser-53 in diseased cirrhosis liver. Phosphorylation increases by IL-6. Proteolytically cleaved by caspases during epithelial cell apoptosis. Cleavage occurs at Asp-238 by either caspase-3, caspase-6 or caspase-7. O-GlcNAcylation increases solubility, and decreases stability by inducing proteasomal degradation.

Subunit Structure: Heterotetramer of two type I and two type II keratins. KRT18 associates with KRT8. Interacts with the thrombin-antithrombin complex (By similarity). Interacts with PNN, HCV core protein and mutated CFTR. Interacts with YWHAE, YWHAH and YWHAZ only when phosphorylated. Interacts with DNAJB6, TCHP and TRADD. Interacts with FAM83H (PubMed:23902688). Interacts with EPPK1 (By similarity).

Similarity: Belongs to the intermediate filament family.

NCBI Description

KRT18 encodes the type I intermediate filament chain keratin 18. Keratin 18, together with its filament partner keratin 8, are perhaps the most commonly found members of the intermediate filament gene family. They are expressed in single layer epithelial tissues of the body. Mutations in this gene have been linked to cryptogenic cirrhosis. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

K18: a type I cytoskeletal keratin. The keratins are intermediate filament proteins responsible for the structural integrity of epithelial cells and are subdivided into cytokeratins and hair keratins. Keratin 18 and its filament partner keratin 8 are perhaps the most commonly found members of the intermediate filament gene family. They are expressed in single layer epithelial tissues of the body. Defects are a cause of cryptogenic cirrhosis.

Product Notes

The K18 krt18 (Catalog #AAA9610554) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Phospho-Keratin 18 (Tyr36) Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Keratin 18 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Peptide ELISA (EIA). WB: 1:500-1:2000 IHC: 1:50-1:200 ELISA (Peptide): 1:20000-1:40000 IMPORTANT: For western blot, incubate membrane with diluted primary Abin 5% w/v milk, 1X TBS, 0.1% Tween®20 at 4°C with gentle shaking, overnight. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the K18 krt18 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Keratin 18, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
