Related Product Information for anti-INS antibody
Insulin is a hormone with extensive effects on both metabolism and several other body systems. It causes most of the body's celis to take up glucose from the blood (including liver, muscle, and fat tissue celis), storing it as glycogen in the liver and muscle, and stops use of fat as an energy source. Insulin is synthesized as a precursor molecule, proinsulin, which is processed prior to its secretion. Aand B-peptides are joined together by a disulfide bond to form insulin, while the central portion of the precursor molecule is cleaved and released as the C-peptide.

NCBI Description

After removal of the precursor signal peptide, proinsulin is post-translationally cleaved into three peptides: the B chain and A chain peptides, which are covalently linked via two disulfide bonds to form insulin, and C-peptide. Binding of insulin to the insulin receptor (INSR) stimulates glucose uptake. A multitude of mutant alleles with phenotypic effects have been identified. There is a read-through gene, INS-IGF2, which overlaps with this gene at the 5' region and with the IGF2 gene at the 3' region. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2010]

Uniprot Description

Insulin decreases blood glucose concentration. It increases cell permeability to monosaccharides, amino acids and fatty acids. It accelerates glycolysis, the pentose phosphate cycle, and glycogen synthesis in liver.

Product Notes

The INS ins (Catalog #AAA857374) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Insulin B Chain Antibody reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Insulin B Chain can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA). ELISA: 1:500. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the INS ins for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Insulin B Chain, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
