Entrez Summary: This gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). The hnRNPs are RNA binding proteins and they complex with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA). These proteins are associated with pre-mRNAs in the nucleus and appear to influence pre-mRNA processing and other aspects of mRNA metabolism and transport. While all of the hnRNPs are present in the nucleus, some seem to shuttle between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. The hnRNP proteins have distinct nucleic acid binding properties. The protein encoded by this gene has three repeats of quasi-RRM domains that bind to RNAs. This protein also constitutes a monomer of the N-acetylglucosamine-specific receptor which is postulated to trigger selective recycling of immature GlcNAc-bearing thyroglobulin molecules. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2011]

Uniprot Description

hnRNP M: Pre-mRNA binding protein in vivo, binds avidly to poly(G) and poly(U) RNA homopolymers in vitro. Involved in splicing. Acts as a receptor for carcinoembryonic antigen in Kupffer cells, may initiate a series of signaling events leading to tyrosine phosphorylation of proteins and induction of IL-1 alpha, IL-6, IL-10 and tumor necrosis factor alpha cytokines. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Nucleolus; RNA splicing; RNA-binding; Receptor, misc.; Spliceosome

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 19p13.2

Cellular Component: extracellular matrix; integral to plasma membrane; membrane; nuclear matrix; nucleoplasm; paraspeckles; spliceosome

Molecular Function: protein binding; protein domain specific binding

Biological Process: alternative nuclear mRNA splicing, via spliceosome; fibroblast growth factor receptor signaling pathway; gene expression; nuclear mRNA splicing, via spliceosome

Product Notes

The hnRNP M hnrnpm (Catalog #AAA475552) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-hnRNP M Rabbit pAb reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's hnRNP M can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). WB: 1:500. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the hnRNP M hnrnpm for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "hnRNP M, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
