NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene binds nucleosomal DNA and is associated with transcriptionally active chromatin. Along with a similar protein, HMG17, the encoded protein may help maintain an open chromatin configuration around transcribable genes. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2011]

Uniprot Description

HMGN1: a nonhistone chromosomal protein of the HMG-14/HMG-17 protein family. Binds to the inner side of the nucleosomal DNA thus altering the interaction between the DNA and the histone octamer. May be involved in the process which maintains transcribable genes in a unique chromatin conformation.

Protein type: DNA-binding; Nuclear receptor co-regulator

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 21q22.2

Cellular Component: chromatin; cytoplasm; nucleoplasm; nucleus

Molecular Function: DNA binding; nucleosomal DNA binding

Biological Process: chromatin organization; positive regulation of NAD+ ADP-ribosyltransferase activity; positive regulation of RNA elongation; post-embryonic camera-type eye morphogenesis; pyrimidine dimer repair via nucleotide-excision repair; regulation of development, heterochronic; regulation of epithelial cell proliferation; regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; response to UV-B; response to UV-C; transcription-coupled nucleotide-excision repair

It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "High Mobility Group Nucleosome Binding Domain Protein 1, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
